FAQ

Where is your office located?

When you enter the parking lot, drive to the backside of the building. Parking is available on this side of the building. You can enter through the door on the back of the building, go up the stairs, and enter through a second door, bringing you to the main office area.

What should I do when I arrive at your office?
As you enter the door at the top of the stairs, you will see signs guiding you to the main waiting room. You can have a seat in the waiting room, and I will meet you in the waiting room at your session start time.
Is your office handicapped-accessible?
No, my current office is not handicapped-accessible. The location is on the top floor and requires walking up a steep flight of stairs (approximately 20 stairs) to get to the top floor. Unfortunately, the building does not have an elevator to access the top floor.
What are your office hours?

I work Monday through Friday, but I do not have set office hours. I offer appointments as early as 8 am and as late at 7 pm, depending on the day.

If I am not scheduled to meet with a client in the office, I do not guarantee that I will be in the office. Therefore, an appointment is required for all face-to-face meetings.

How long is a typical session?
Your first session (intake) will last about 60 minutes. All other sessions will typically last 45-50 minutes.
How do I pay?
Payment is made through the client portal. You are required to keep a debit or credit card on file. This card will be charged for each session. You can use a Health Savings Account as well.
How do I make an appointment?
Please call or message me to make an appointment. I am often with clients throughout the work day and have found it is typically best to send a message, so that we can schedule a time to talk by phone. This will prevent up from playing phone tag.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. If appointments are canceled in less than 24 hours, you will be charged the full session fee. If you do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged the full session fee.
With what age ranges do you work?
I work with children and adolescents ages 3-18 years old. My focus is primarily on children and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or behavioral challenges.
What modalities do you use in your practice?
The modality depends on the individual with whom I am working and their treatment goals for our work together. I typically use Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Principles (MATCH-ADTC, TF-CBT), and Mindfulness-Based strategies.
What is MATCH-ADTC?

MATCH-ADTC (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, or Conduct Problems) is an evidence-based treatment designed for children ages 6-17. MATCH-ADTC is unique because instead of focusing on one disorder, its design treats four common behavioral health concerns among children (anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and behavior problems).

MATCH-ADTC has 33 modules, comprised of components that frequently include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy protocols for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and behavioral parent training. MATCH-ADTC is a sequential yet flexible treatment tailored to your child’s needs.

What is TF-CBT?
TF-CBT (Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents/caregivers. TF-CBT successfully resolves emotional and behavioral challenges associated with single, multiple, and complex trauma experiences.
What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a way of being with your child that honors their developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the child’s “language” (play). The therapeutic use of play allows children, typically ages 3-12, to express themselves better and resolve their problems.
Is Play Therapy beneficial?

Absolutely! Play is your child’s first language. Before they learn to speak, they use non-verbal communication and play to express themselves.

Through Play Therapy, your child will learn self-control and self-respect. They will begin to understand their emotions and learn to express their feelings more helpfully. Additionally, your child will gain decision-making, problem-solving, and healthy coping skills.

Do you work with adults?
Currently, I do not provide individual or couples therapy for adults. I do work with adults who are parents to children and adolescents. My work with parents includes coaching and behavior management training.
What is Parent Coaching?
Parent Coaching provides parents with the tools to create empowered parenting dynamics with their child, shifting generational patterns of power-over and traumatic parenting into peaceful parenting.
What is Behavior Management Training?
Behavior Management Training teaches parents how to support their child’s behavioral needs better. This training includes creating an environment conducive to your child’s success, giving effective directions, providing your child with positive feed, and much more.
Will you tell me what you and my child discuss in therapy sessions?

Your child’s privacy is important to me, and they will most likely not want me to share with you details of our conversations. However, I will share skills your child has learned during sessions and topics covered in sessions.

I ask that you respect your child’s privacy by not questioning them about the details of their therapy sessions. If they want to talk with you about their session details, they will share these on their own.

What if my child is in danger?
If your child says to me that they will hurt themselves or hurt another person, then I will let you know immediately.
Are you a mandated reporter?
Yes, I am a mandated reporter.
What is a mandated reporter?
A mandated reporter is a person who must report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the relevant authorities because of their professional requirements.
What if I see you outside of therapy sessions?

Let’s face it, Burlington isn’t that big. So, while I don’t see clients outside of sessions frequently, it does happen. To protect your confidentiality, I will not approach you to say hi. However, if we see each other outside of sessions, and you would like to say hi, it is okay.

Please know that I will not make the first move, not because I am trying to avoid you but because I want to maintain your confidentiality.

If you choose not to say hi, that is okay. I will not be offended and will not treat you differently during the session. You have the right to confidentiality, and you aren’t the first person to choose not to say hi.

Can we be friends on social media?
No, I am not allowed to maintain a relationship with you outside of our therapeutic relationship. So, while I am not a big social media user, if you happen to find me on a social media site, I cannot connect with you through these platforms.
