Parent Coaching

There are many different types of parents. Maybe you are a biological parent, an adoptive parent, a foster parent, a stepparent, or maybe your parenting has another label.

Although the route to parenting looks different for everyone, all parents have one thing in common. Parenting is challenging.

You have five minutes until you need to be out the door. Ten minutes ago, you told your child to put on their shoes, and they still haven’t done it. You find yourself rushing around getting all the last-minute tasks completed before leaving.

Once more, the child hears you say, “Time to go.” But again, you must tell them to “please put on their shoes.” Then, the meltdown begins with your child refusing to put on their shoes. They don’t like those shoes; they feel uncomfortable, aren’t the right color, etc. Oh, Brother!

The meltdown turns to chaos.

The clock is ticking, and you don’t have time for a meltdown right now. You start feeling stressed, frustrated, and overwhelmed with emotions.

Putting on shoes seems like a straightforward task and a simple request. You only want your child to put on the shoes so you can get out the door.

Before you have time to think, you react in a way you wish you hadn’t. Now, your child’s feelings are hurt, and they are crying.

You know that you didn’t handle the situation correctly. This interaction leaves you feeling guilty and wishing you had responded differently.
